Alzheimer’s Did Not Dim Her Shining Eyes

Last week I had the opportunity to work with an Alzheimer’s Day Program using the InterAct™ kit. We had a lot of fun with great interaction and engagement by the individuals who participated. One woman, in particular, really stood out for me. While I don’t know her full-story, she had a great deal of difficulty speaking. That didn’t stop her from being really interested to try all the different activities I was presenting to the group. As she successfully completed one activity after another, she would look to me for confirmation that she ‘got it right’ and her eyes would just shine. She took on more and more challenging activities, until she was playing a mean game of tic-tac-toe and winning every time. The look of delight on her face was contagious.

When I walked away from that group that day, her shining eyes stayed with me. It reminded me that there can still be so much joy in our lives, regardless of where we are at with this disease.
